After driving back up with Christian on Thursday morning, we had (and still have) a decent amount of things on our plates before we can make it back down to Tucson for a bit (Sarah, Kristin, and Gina...I'm still coming! Eventually!). Christian's exam weeks are always followed by a capstone week where he has different clinical shadowing experiences. This capstone he followed a physical therapist for a day and got to see a major surgery at Arizona Heart Hospital. After that (Thursday was his last one) he was SUPER officially done. Like...for reals. I still can't believe how quickly it went.
Then, the weekend came and brought with it...
PHOENIX COMIC-CON! This was our first time to the con and we had such a fantastic time.
| Our friend Caitlin and her very talented author-boyfriend Eric Esquivel |
| All his great stuff! |
| We finally put a few miles on the bikes together. This is my bike's first real appearance since it's Valentine's day makeover! |
| Max Brooks (Mel Brooks' son), Author of Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z |
One of Eric's panels on comic book creation; that guy on your far right is DC author and
writer for the British TV show Doctor Who, Paul Cornell. |
The ballroom, where all the largest talks took place, including Max Brooks, Stan Lee,
Leonard Nimoy, George Takei, and Billy D. Williams |
| The man himself! Stan Lee!!! Hands down, the best talk of the con. What a cool guy. |
| TRINI! The BEST Power Ranger. |
| Chris and Gambit (his fave from the X-Men) |
The weekend was wonderful and Clinton even came up and joined us for Saturday's festivities. Sunday we went to Queen Creek for my cousin Trevor's graduation party and had a great time (my family minus Megs and my Grammy came up from Tucson). Monday was a little break and we're back in full force today. Monday Christian started on another research project at Maricopa Medical Center that he'll do for June before he leaves for his San Francisco research in July. My classes with Teen Outreach Pregnancy Services are finally officially starting...today! I am the nurse educator for the Sunnyslope area and we have been hunting for a teaching location for months now; in the meantime I've been subbing for other teachers at other locations. I'm excited to start working with the same girls from start to finish and establish our own location (with my case worker, Kim). We also have a training seminar in the fabulous and exciting Casa Grande (a fair location due to having employees in both Phoenix and Tucson) on Thursday/Friday. Then school starts August 8th (for both of us)!!! I can't wait to dive into school! The wait is driving me nuts! I'm just going to try to make the most of these next two months and get tons of stuff done so there are no major distractions for either of us come August.
In the meantime, we'll try to spend some time in Tucson, maybe take a quick little vacation, then a few jaunts out to help Lindsay and Toby get settled in their San Francisco apartment while spending some time with Chris while he's away. I know the next few months should fly by so I'm bracing myself.
I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend. We hope to see everyone soon.
Love, love, love.
Ash, Chris, and V
